Environmental Portraits
I was recently shooting some portraits of a family in Mesa, AZ that owns an orange grove, and wanted some family portraits taken around their property, which included the grove, a vegetable garden, and cool old farm equipment.
We were finishing up the session when someone joked about getting a picture in the chicken coop. I thought it was a great idea, but had one condition - one of them had to hold a chicken. The youngest boy in the family...
We shot this wedding up at Red Mountain Ranch Golf Club. Weddings at Red Mountain Ranch Golf Club are a special because of the incredible views overlooking Mesa and Phoenix in the distance. We have been the photographers at a number of weddings at Red Mountain Ranch now, and we always enjoy photographing weddings there because the venue is amazing and the staff runs things really well.

Desert Botanical Garden Wedding

Dan and Lisa had an awesome sunset ceremony at the recently renovated Desert Botanical Gardens. The new uplighting at the venue looks really great. for this shot, we hid some off-camera flashes amongst the cactus to light our bride and groom against the really colorful sunset.

Some people wonder how we can get good photos of groomsmen, especially since a lot of groomsmen are uncooperative or dislike having their picture taken. We've had years of experience dealing with all types of groomsmen, from the easy-to-work with to scenes bordering on a drunken frat party.
One thing that gets them every time is when we use our Jedi mind tricks to pose them - and sometimes it really takes some doing...
We usually like to shoot engagement photos at sunset because the light always looks better during the 'golden hour' right before sunset. For this shoot, we made some nice portraits with a twist of a 'Cinderella' theme at the Castle at Ashley Manor down in Chandler, Arizona as we waited for the sun to set.
Just before the sun dipped below the horizon, I took these guys around to the 'back lot' behind the venue, which is just an ordinary dirt lot with a view of the open desert south of Phoenix....
